Monte Markhan was considered for the role of Steve Austin, and was favored by the novel's author, Martin Caidin. The part would go to Lee Majors, of course. ^[1]

Markham would make Bionic history nevertheless, winning the role of Barney Miller/Hiller, the Seven Million Dollar Man.
